City Arena Trnava - EURO 2020 Qualifier

Ryan Giggs' Wales side head to Slovakia for their crucial Group E Euro 2020 qualifier, with a positive result needed for Wales.

Past Meetings

Waless beat Slovakia in the home leg of this fixture back in March, with Manchester United's Daniel James scoring the winner in a 1-0 victory.

Giggs' side are unbeaten in their last three meetings with Slovakia - all in European qualifying action.

Team News

Giggs has been able to call on his big guns for this game, with Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey coming in from Real Madrid and Juventus respectively. James is also called up, alongside Bournemouth's Harry Wilson and Spurs' Ben Davies.

Slovakia have just one Premier League name in their squad, with Martin Dubravka included by Paval Hapal, alongside La Liga players Stanislav Lobotka and Martin Valjent.

Slovakia v Wales Preview and Predictions

Slovakia have performed well in qualifying so far, with two wins over Hungary and one against whipping boys Azerbaijan as they look to push for a place in next summer's finals. However, they face real tests in their remaining qualifiers, with a trip to Zagreb following this game, before a final match against Azerbaijan.

Wales are currently in fourth place in the group after four games, meaning real concern for Giggs in his maiden qualification campaign as Wales boss. They do have a game in hand on top two Croatia and Slovakia, but just like Hapal's side he face a tough end to qualifying, with a home game against Croatia and a final day trip to Hungary.

Giggs cannot come back from this game with a defeat if he wants to remain in the hunt for qualification, but an away win looks tricky - with a more reasonable draw priced at 21/10. Despite having plenty of attacking talent, Wales have been low scorers under Giggs in qualifying, scoring more than one goal just once in qualification so far. With that in mind, an under 2.5 total goals scored bet is available at 8/15.

Recommended Bets

A 1-1 draw at 5/1

Wales need a result more than their hosts in this clash, and Slovakia presented plenty of problems for Giggs' side in Cardiff, and they should be strong enough in defence to get a draw.

Daniel James to score anytime at 7/2

James is Wales's top scorer in qualifying with two goals so far, and he has been in red hot form for Manchester United following his summer move - with three goals in eight Premier League games from midfield.
