Jota Signs Extended Deal With Liverpool

04/08/22

- Grant Whittington

Big news in the world of football this week is Liverpool forward Diogo Jota’s extended and improved deal with Liverpool FC. The Portugal international reportedly signed an extension clause on the five-year contract initially signed with the club.

Jota has been making his time with Liverpool count. Since joining the club from Wolves in 2020, he has scored 34 goals across 85 appearances.

The extended deal will reportedly run until 2027.

Validation For Jota

In signing a long-term deal with the FC, Jota joins fellow forward Mohamed Salah – this following the departure of Sadio Mane, who has left for Bayern Munich.

According to the star forward, who spoke with LIverpoolfc.com following the signing of the extended contract, the offer to remain on longer makes for a proud moment. He explained that ever since he joined the club two years ago, he had wanted to establish himself as a vital part of the team. He said the fact that the club had approached him with an extended deal is proof in Liverpool’s faith in him as a valuable player.

After suffering a hamstring injury while on international duty for Portugal in June, Jota has been notably absent from the club’s pre-season matches. He said this week that the injury will likely see him sidelined for a number of weeks to come.

If anything, he’s unlikely to play in the weekend’s Premier League opener at Fulham.

Jota Worth Every Penny

While many had uttered surprise when the FC parted with £45 million to acquire Jota from Wolves in September of 2020, it has since become clear that the move had been a smart decision on the part of the club.

While the forward had been one-in-three at Molineux, he has improved enough to become a vital part of Liverpool’s forward line. So great has been his improvement, and much to the delight of Reds manager Jurgen Klopp, that Jota has now emerged as one of the most effective headers in the top flight.

What To Look Forward To

Liverpool is now looking forward to kicking off their 2022/23 Premier League campaign at a newly renovated Fulham on Saturday, August 6. This coming season will mark the 4th season in a row in which the club will be starting a new season against a new addition to the Premier League.

After squaring it off with Crystal Palace, Liverpool will face Manchester United at Old Trafford, on August 22.

The club’s final contest before the end of the season will see them come up against Southampton at Anfield, on November 12.
