Where To Watch Horse Racing This Weekend

With summer now in full swing, race course fans around the country are basking in the sunshine and enjoying their favourite pastime at courses around the country. The flat season is also reaching its peak time, offering ample opportunities for fans and punters to check out the runners and riders at multiple races.

Of course, attempting to take in all of the races that the UK has to offer is easier said than done. Not only do you need to know where the action is happening, but it is also crucial that you plan your itinerary in careful detail to ensure that you make the most of your time and do not miss a thing!

Where to Watch racing: The Event, Runners and Racers

As you would expect, Saturday is a particularly busy day in the calendar, with seven meetings scheduled up and down the country. Including races at Bath, Chelmsford, Chester, Newton Abbot, Perth, Sandown and York, there is action in the north and south and something for everyone to enjoy. The flat race meeting at Bath perhaps stands out, as this is Ladies Day and a truly joyous occasion where everybody dresses to impress! Including the climactic Simply the Best Driftwood Horses Handicap, this meeting is one to get to if you can.

The afternoon meeting at York is also one to behold, with a number of competitive racing taking place during the day. Take the Betfred Melrose Stakes Handicap, for example, which is due to start at 14:50 and includes the talented, early favourite Shraaoh (who is trained by Sir Michael Stoute and can currently be backed at 4/1). Elsewhere, the Toteexacta Pick 1st And 2nd Handicap race will take place in the evening at Chelmsford City, where Against the Odds will start as a marginal favourite in a field full of incredible talent and pedigree.

What About Jump Racing?

Saturday also seems some top quality jump meeting too, with events at Newton Abbot and Perth particularly exciting. There are several hurdle and chase races scheduled for these events, including the Perth City Centre Novices’ Handicap Hurdle. Here, the Irish-bred horse Baysbrown will start as a prominent favourite, amid stern competition from What a Game.

This all equates to a staggering day of racing, and one that promises a great deal for fans and riders alike. One thing is for sure; this weekend will be a race fan’s heaven no matter where you live in the country.
