New Bookmakers Horse Racing Fans Prep for Saudi Cup

21/12/21

- Grant Whittington

Aero Trem, who recently won South America’s most prestigious race, the Group 1 Gran Premio Latinoamericano, is well on his way to represent Uruguay in next year’s The Saudi Cup. He recently travelled to Dubai where he’ll continue to prepare to run in the most valuable race in the world. Now, new bookmakers horse racing fans are watching eagerly to see how the run up to the race unfolds.

For Aero Trem, who nearly died three years ago resulting from a near-fatal bout of colic, just lining up at the prestigious $20 million event will be an achievement of note. The showpiece contest will on Saturday, Feb. 26, be run as a Group 1 event for the very first time.

The venue will be the King Abdulaziz Racetrack in Riyadh and new online bookies are sure to offer great odds for the event.

Waiting On An Invite

According to assistant trainer Julio Olascoaga, the star contender travelled for two days before his arrival in Dubai. He shipped first from Uruguay to Germany, and then from Germany to Dubai. And while horses typically lose weight while travelling, Olascoaga said the star of the show made the trip as if nothing at all had happened.

Now that Aero Trem has safely arrived in Dubai, the next big step will be to wait for his invitation to The Saudi Cup – something Olascoaga said he shouldn’t experience any problems in securing.

The star thoroughbred has been having quite the year. Before finishing first in October’s Gran Premio Latinoamericano, Aero Trem in January won the Gran Premio Pedro Pineyrua at Maronas, and for the second year in a row. This had been only the second time in all of 38 years that a horse from Uruguay had landed the greatest race in South America, making it a record occasion for the new bookmakers horse racing sites that offered odds on the race.

A Victorious Road To Here

After his bout with colic, it took quite some time for Aero Trem to recover from the illness, explained Olascoaga. During this time, he lost 150kg and also underwent surgery. But he’s a horse that never fails to impress, added the trainer.

But being selected for The Saudi Cup, and hopefully winning the event, is about more than just recognition for Uruguay. It’s also about measuring South America’s stables against those of the rest of the world, said Olascoaga. Competing against the best is how you yourself get better, he explained.

He said while prize money is important, it certainly isn’t everything.

Good Things Await In Saudi

While Saudi will be a first for Aero Trem, Olascoaga said the team has heard much about the track from others. He said the track is believed to suit Uruguayan horses in an even more effective way than Dubai because of its longer straight.

For Aero Trem, Saudi will mean a fast pace, a reasonable distance, and a track well-suited to his style and performance. And for bettors at new online bookies it could mean big wins.
