Man U To Sign Martin Dubravka On Loan

30/08/22

- Grant Whittington

Manchester United continues their struggle for relevancy. Now, the team has signed Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on a loan deal for 2022/23. This poises Dubravka to become the Red Devils’ sixth signing of the summer transfer window, after the FC recently splurged out on players like Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro.

Dubravka, who hails from Slovakia, recently lost favour with the Magpies following the arrival of Nick Pope, who has impressed far and wide since joining Eddie Howe’s squad.

While the Slovakian goalkeeper has yet to put in an appearance this season, he comes with solid experience in the Premier League.

Big Money For Anthony

Also set to be unveiled soon is Ajax winger Antony, which unveiling will follow the completion of his medical, which he successfully passed on Monday.

The Brazilian will set back the club a cool €100 million (£85 million), which makes of him the third most expensive signing in the history of the FC (following Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba). Personal terms have reportedly already agreed between the team and the player, who will soon get to reunite with Erik ten Hag.

Ajax, meanwhile, have entered into talks with Sevilla for Argentina winger Lucas Ocampos.

Option To Buy

The squad at Old Trafford have been hard pressed to find a replacement for loaner Dean Henderson, who has departed to Nottingham Forest. They had initially approached Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp, but the former Paris Saint-Germain star had rejected the opportunity, which led ten Hag to approach Dubravka instead.

Manchester United expects to complete the deal on Thursday, which deal will reportedly include the opportunity to buy the 33-year-old goalkeeper for £5 million.

Competition For De Gea

The main driving force behind ten Hag’s push for singing Dubravka is because of a need for genuine competition for David de Gea. According to reports, the Dutchman is eager to have more than one option in the role of goalkeeper – not to mention someone able to keep the No. 1 Spaniard on his toes.

Dubravka is a phenomenal shot-stopper and has made more than 370 saves during his Premier League career. His joining Manchester United will undoubtedly send a warning message to De Gea to improve his own performance levels in the backline.

Cavani Joins Valencia

Edinson Cavani, meanwhile, has now joined Valencia following the expiration of his contract with Manchester United earlier in the summer. He has reportedly agreed to a 2-year deal with the Spanish side.
